Thank You Modified Dolls!

The Shannon J. Shaw Memorial Fund shows great appreciation to
The Modified Dolls - New Mexico Chapter

The Modified Dolls is an organization of women from around the globe who volunteer their time in efforts to raise funds for local and National charities. These women also happen to be tattooed, pierced and wear other types of modifications. With chapters in more than 40 states and 8 different countries the dolls strive to make a positive impact and to break the stereotypes of how those with modifications are viewed along the way. They are the different making the difference.

Thank you for hosting and organizing the silent auction held at the 3rd Annual Advocacy for Cancer Patients Seminar! All the girls rocked getting some great donations for the auction and The Dolls have raised over $500 to benefit the Shannon J. Shaw Memorial Fund at The UNM Cancer Center. Thank you for all of the hard work and dedication in helping us succeed! There were a few close calls when the bidding

We would like to thank all of the donors and bidders who also made the auction a success! See the Items that were up for Auction and the winning bidders below!

Modified Dolls Help Lead Fight

Against Skin Cancer

Guys and Dolls alike will benefit from an upcoming seminar for tattoo artists and tattoo shop employees. The free seminar will offer information and materials to educate clients and promote the necessity of keeping skin protected in the fight against skin cancer. The seminar will take place from 1-3 p.m. August 11 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, 2401 12th St. NW Albuquerque. The event is being sponsored by the Modified Dolls − “the different making a difference,” − charity group and Jeff and Evy Diamond, founders of the Shannon J. Shaw Memorial Fund. Proceeds from a silent auction will benefit the UNM Cancer Center. Nancy Armijo, with UNM Cancer Center, will be speaking at the event.

The Modified Dolls are a non-profit organization that supports a variety of local charities. The organization’s goal is to “demolish the negative stereotypes associated with being a modified woman by doing charity work.” Recent Modified Doll efforts around New Mexico have included feeding families at the Ronald McDonald House Charity, a bike run to benefit the Carrie Tingly Children’s Hospital and Joy Junction, fundraising for the American Cancer Society, fundraising for the World Wildlife Fund and much more.

“I read a feature article about some of New Mexico’s Modified Dolls, and I felt they’d be an excellent group to work with,” said Jeff Diamond, a New Mexico attorney. “It doesn’t matter if you have no body modifications or a thousand of them, having the right information to protect your skin from skin cancer is the right thing to do.”

“I'd say as a former tattoo artist myself, I believe it's important to learn as much as possible about the skin you are working on,” noted Miranda Davi, head doll of the New Mexico Modified Dolls. “We need to be aware of the danger signs. As a Modified Doll, we have taken on the responsibility to bring awareness to our community.”

“A tattoo or another form of body modification is a work of art,” Diamond added. “With this seminar, we aim to provide Albuquerque and New Mexico’s most responsible tattoo artists and shop employees with valuable information to protect that work of art – and the beautiful person beneath it.
