"It's A Team Effort"
Creating New Partnerships in the Cure for Cancer
The 2nd Annual Advocacy for Cancer Patients was held October 19 & 20th, 2012 in Carlsbad, New Mexico at the Pecos River Village Conference Center. This event was held in support of the Shannon J. Shaw Memorial Cancer Fund at UNM Cancer Center.
The Seminar provided a unique opportunity to facilitate knowledge about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in New Mexico prior to the state legislative session. As this legislation takes affect, landmark changes will allow cancer patients additional opportunities for diagnosis and treatment.
It is believed that nothing will help more people, fight more disease, and promote better health than good faith efforts to implement the Act as seamlessly as possible, including the expansion of Medicaid in New Mexico. The seminar's goal was to provide programs on consumer outreach and education, changes in insurance coverage and availability, and Health Insurance Exchange including the Federal Insurance Exchange of HHS/CMS. The intent was also to provide a non-political exchange of information on the new reality that would allow people to understand their legal and medical rights.
It is also believed that healthcare providers, lawyers, insurance people, small business and especially the public would want to learn as much as possible about implementation. Amazing changes are on the horizon, and we wanted to show people that we are creating new partnerships in the cure for cancer.
